Last time, the Gundor Team recruited Tetsuya and Jun.

Our next location is Nergal Heavy Industries' Sasebo Dock.
After boosting the Gundor Team's roster with super robots, Hazuki suggests visiting Sasebo. What could possibly warrant this visit...?
Chapter 5 (1-5): To Go "Like a Man"
Super Robot Wars Impact - You Get To Burning

Hm... This isn't good. This is supposed to be the day the Nadesico enters active service.

What do we do, Yurika?

Hmmm... Okay, let's exit through the seafloor gate, move underwater, then surface behind the enemies and destroy them.

All right. Time to see our crew in action.

The engine isn't warmed up yet, though. We can't possibly launch immediately.

Then what do we do?

That's where I come in! I'll take my robot up top and draw the enemy's attention. The Nadesico can launch in the meantime! Ooh, this kind of emergency gets me so pumped!

...Idiot.

Okay, bring it on!

Whoa, that was quick. Hold on, Yamada!

My name is GAI DAIGOJI. Don't worry, I got this! C'mon, come at me!

*sigh* I guess we'll have to see how this plays out.

Minato!

Yes, yes, give it another 5... No, 4 minutes.

If it's that long...

...I suspect he's doomed.

Hey, wait! That Aesti's...!

Um, Uribatake?
Before the new unit, we need to talk about Aestivalises.
Aestis in this game are frail and fast. They have three main gimmicks, Distortion Fields, the Gravity Wave Beam, and their different Frames.
- Distortion Fields reduce all incoming damage by 1000, all incoming beam damage by 1500, and all gravity-attribute damage by 3000. This barrier activates no matter what, and uses 20 EN per incoming attack.
- Whenever an Aesti performs a movement or action, they expend 5 EN if they're not inside of the Nadesico's Gravity Wave range, and that includes any EN used for combat.
- If an Aesti runs out of EN, they are unable to move, defend, evade, or attack.
- At the beginning of every turn, an Aesti inside of the Nadesico's Gravity Wave range has their EN fully restored.
- All Aestis have different Frames, that being the Ground Frame, Air Frame, 0G Frame, Artillery Frame, and Lunar Frame. Each is for the kind of combat that's on the tin.
- An Aesti, when not restricted by plot, can exchange their current Frame to another when inside of the Nadesico's range.
Furthermore, each pilot's custom Aestivalis are slightly different from each other, either by attack strength, attack ranges, or slight variations in base stats.
With that being said…

[Air Aestivalis Gai]
The Air Frame is best for anti-air combat. It has the highest mobility, but the lowest HP, EN, and armor of the possible Frames. Surprisingly, it has an A rank on the Moon, so it can work there (when grounded). Yeah, Impact has a different terrain rank for the Moon.
Gai's Aestivalises have higher attack power for melee and close-ranged attacks, but his Artillery ranges and attack power are lower than average. He does get a unique attack, Gai Super Uppercut in the 0G Frame, however. Also, all of his attacks have a Gekiganger twist in their naming conventions.
As a pilot, Gai is built like a Super Robot pilot. His defense stat is higher than the other Aesti pilots, and he gets both Support Attack and Valor very early on. The only defensive Spirit he gets is Guard as well. Essentially, he's a Super Robot pilot locked in a Real Robot body.
Move Gai to the northeast to engage with the Battas. The Battas' attacks cannot pierce the Aesti's barrier easily, so it's open season.
As a note for future chapters, due to how the plot in this stage works out, you cannot clear it in 5 turns or less. The game is very strict as to when plot events happen. For example, if an event is set to occur on turn 6 and you defeat all enemies on turn 4, the stage will continue without an enemy phase until turn 6 happens. In other words, you cannot skip events or make events happen earlier by being fast.
The plot advances at the start of the next turn.

All right, do your worst! I'll blow you away with my Gekigan Punch!

Wow, Yamada's really into this! He's doing pretty well, isn't he?

Considering our skeleton crew of combat personnel, that's the minimum we require.

Hey, Yamada! Don't extend past where you are! Intercept everything, you got that?!

What's going on with them...?

I said to call me Gai! Hragh!

Um, Yamada?

AGAIN, call me Gai! Gai Daigoji!

...Yamada's machine is exiting the Nadesico's energy supply radius.

"The machine is now immobile due to lack of energy."

What the heck? Why'd my Gekiganger stop working?

Hey, Uribatake!

Oh, for crying out loud... You dumbass, that Aestivalis runs on energy waves supplied by the Nadesico! If you go too far from the Nadesico, of course you're gonna shut down!

What?! Why didn't you warn me sooner?

You worthless grease monkey!

I loaded an Aesti up with a battery pack, but you took the one that didn't have one instead, you incompetent pilot!

(I refuse to stay cooped up like this. I'm gonna be a cook. There's no way I'm going out now!)

More enemies inbound. ...And Yamada's machine is completely surrounded.

Is the engine ready yet?!

3 more minutes! Um, will Yamada be able to hold out that long?
Super Robot Wars Impact - You Get To Burning

Akito?!

That cook knows how to pilot?

For whatever reason, he's received IFS treatment.

What's that?

IFS is short for Image Feedback System. Nanomachines form an auxiliary brain within the body and—

Um, Ruri, could you keep it simple? We ARE in the middle of a battle...

...It channels your thoughts directly into the robot.

Well, if he's got that, he should be able to handle an Aesti okay. The rest comes down to whether he's got a head for piloting.

Is he going to be able to handle this, Yurika?

Of course. Akito's my prince! He always comes running when I'm in trouble!

What?! Now hold on, Yurika!

But I can't let myself be captivated by you! It's too dangerous...!

What do you mean, captivated?!

I get it! No words from a woman could bend your unyielding determination!

Okay, hold on...

All right. I place the lives of the Nadesico and its crew in your hands... Oh, and Yamada's too. Make sure to come back alive!

Slow down, Yurika!

Gaaah! It's over for me! I'm gonna die!

Huh?! Rgh... Uh... Do I really have to do this?!

Oh, Akito! Our lives—and Yamada's—are riding on you!

Is this really what we're going with?

Well, we're immobile either way...
Idiots…

[Ground Aestivalis Akito]
The Ground Frame is best for, well, ground combat. It has difficulty hitting flying units with its more powerful attacks, but it makes up for it by having the highest EN compared to the other Frames. In every other way, it has average stats.
The Akito variant of Aestis is the most average. It's not particularly weaker or stronger in any way compared to all the other Aestis. What it does have is combo attacks with Gai's Aestivalis, but only if they're both in the same Frame, either Air or 0G.
Akito is the most average pilot out of the others in his class. He does start with Luck and Valor, and gets Focus very early. He also eventually gets Zeal, a very coveted Spirit. Eventually, he gains the A-Class Jumper skill, which lets him ignore all terrain when moving around.
Move Akito to where Gai was before he dun goofed. There's not much you can do about helping him, so focus on fighting the Battas you can.

This is what happens when an Aesti runs out of energy. No movement, no attacks, and no barrier. You can't even choose to defend or evade incoming attacks. The only way to fix that is to either use a resupply unit on them (such as Boss Borot), or get the battleship Nadesico in range.
Speaking of which, at the start of the third enemy phase…

More hostiles.

The ship is prepped to launch.

Akito... I won't let you die.

Ship is 80% submerged. Opening gate.

Engine's running and ready.

Nadesico, take off!

Nadesico... take off.

(You Get to Burning plays again)

Here we are, Akito!

That was early!

I rushed it just for you!

Enemy weapons are mostly within effective firing range.

Target, AAALL enemies! Fire!

Video version with timestamp
(TL Note: I'm still working out the gif thing.)
[All enemies newly spawned enemies except for the last one are destroyed. One at a time.]

Whoa…

What is that ship?!

And those enemies. I've never seen those types before.

Their ID's coming up as... What? Jovian Lizards??

What the heck is a Jovian lizard?

They're unidentified unmanned weapons that showed up several months ago on Mars.

And these are new enemies?

We're not sure. It could be a new faction, or new weapons of an existing faction.

I think we've got more pressing concerns right now.

This is Kotaro Hazuki, captain of the Gundor and secretary of the EFF Far East Branch. Requesting to speak with your captain.

What in the world? A giant dragon?!

The Gundor! The ship that once stood firm in the face of the Muge Zorbados Empire... Oh dear, this complicates things.

Oh, MAN! Does that mean it's got the Super Beast Machine God inside?!

That's an obvious question with an obvious answer—damn right it does. Let's rock!

Fujiwara, wait!

Secretary, these units are clearly hostile. He's got the right idea. We're moving out too!

Agreed!

Hmph. In Fujiwara's case, it's more like a broken clock is right twice a day.

Come on, Hayato! Benkei!

Deploy the troops! We still get to deploy everyone.

Well, if it isn't Dr. Hazuki—ah, but you're a secretary now.

Are you the captain of that vessel?

Oh, far from it. My name is Prospector. I'm a manager with Nergal Heavy Industries, though really I'm more of a bean counter. This is our captain.

That's right.
Hello, everybody, I'm the captain!
V!

Did she just...?

She's fun.

Don't engage that, Masato.

And you guys, come on! We were asking a serious question!

Um, they seem skeptical.

Aww, come on!

Hold on, let's not start out accusing each other. This isn't exactly the time for clowning around.

Wow, someone's levelheaded.

(I'm used to this from dealing with another certain someone who never respects the gravity of a situation.)

Okay, but is she actually their captain?

You shouldn't judge a book by its cover, Koji.

Though in this case...

You said Misumaru. Are you related to Admiral Misumaru?

Yes, she's the daughter of Koichiro Misumaru, admiral of the EFF 3rd Fleet.

It's been a long time, Dr. Hazuki. I've seen you before at Federation Academy!

Oh, have you? My apologies, but I don't remember you, Captain Misumaru.

Of course you wouldn't! I was just one face in a big crowd of students.

I was really impressed with your lecture on harmony between the universe and humans' innate wild instincts.

Do wild instincts have any relation to the universe?

Beats me.

...

Are you guys done yappin'?! We're in a battle here, Hazuki!

Mm. So I take it this ship is the Nadesico?

The Nadesico?

Oho, you're familiar?

I've heard rumors that Nergal was building a secret warship.

"Secret warship" is such a sinister way of describing it. We've gotten the necessary clearances from the Federation.

With Jaburo out of contact, I have no way of verifying that claim, so I'll need a full explanation.

(Hmm... The secretary's just as I was informed.)

Isn't Nergal Heavy Industries a civilian business? Why would they build a warship?

We have our own agenda.

What agenda is that?

...The agenda might be immaterial very shortly.

Huh?

Enemy reinforcements?!

From the air?!

Hooohohoho. The robots in space put up a good fight. Will the ones down here do the same?
(Killer the Butcher. Zambot. CV: Akira Shimada)

This enemy has no ID.

Is that the bug-robots' main strike force?

It looks like a new enemy faction regardless.

Man, how many factions are there...?

Okay, knock it off!

Yurika!

Oh gosh, I forgot! This is no time for chatting. The Nadesico will move to intercept. We have to cover Akito!

What am I, chopped liver?!

Understood.

All units, wipe out these hostiles, including the bug machines!

(What're these little bitty things? I guess it doesn't matter as long as they don't interfere with us.)

…
We might not keep it right now, but there's a new ship on the block.

[Nadesico]
The Nadesico is usually the best battleship in whatever game you get it in, and this game is no exception. It's bulky thanks to its Distortion Field, can supply infinite EN to all Aesti units in range, and it has a very powerful Gravity Blast attack, in both single-target and MAP variants. Plus, it has 5 pilots. Its main issue is that it's very easy to run out of EN, it's weak against enemies that have their own Distortion Fields, and its availability in this game is rather limited. Still, when you can use it, it's usually the best battleship option.
Move the Nadesico into Akito's range to stop his steady EN dropping. On the Gundor front, send two or three units towards Gai to save him from Battas while everyone else heads towards Butcher. You can use Trust on Gai if you feel like he's going to die. I wouldn't recommend sending Boss up to him, since plot will happen and he'll leave before Boss can get close enough to restore his EN.
As a heads up, none of the units from Nadesico will join the team permanently until much later in the game. The Gundor Team will keep running into them, but you won't be able to upgrade any of them until about halfway through Act 2.

Here's our boss for the stage, Killer the Butcher in the Bandock. It's big, bulky, and has very long-ranging attacks. You'll want to get up close, but be careful of any MAP attacks (attacks with an area of effect). The Mechaboosts that accompany him are just like the Kikaijus on the previous stages, so just watch your health and work on bringing them down.
SKILL POINT: Defeat Killer the Butcher (Retreats at 30% HP)
But help arrives at the start of turn 5.
Super Robot Wars Impact - Go! Zambot 3

More hostiles?!

Okay, hold it right there!
(Kappei Jin. Zambot. CV: Chinatsu Sakamoto)

Oho? What's this? A robot?

Ooh, yet another super robot? *sniff* They're all here to save me... Thank you... Thank you all so much...

Pretty sure that's just a coincidence.

What's going on now?

Are these the Gaizock Grandpa told us about?

Man, talk about lousy taste.
(Uchuta Kamie. Zambot. CV: Kanna Ennen)

Come on, guys! These are clearly enemies. Take this seriously!
(Keiko Kamikita. Zambot. CV: Yoshiko Matsuo)

What a rude bunch you are! That's it!

I'm sending out enough Mechaboost Gabitans to make you cry!

What's with the crescent moon robot?

This is Hazuki of the Gundor. You, in the robot, state your name and affiliation!

A-filly-ation? What's that?

The Gaizock are invading Earth and he wants us to sit around talking. Grown-ups, am I right?

What's wrong with you two?!

Um, Mr. Hazuki? We're members of the Jin Family, and we're using Zambot 3 to, um, protect the Earth from the Gaizock...

Children? How many of you are in that thing? And what's this about "Gaizock"?

(It's now or never, I suppose.)

This is no time for arguing, Hazuki! It's pretty damn clear which guys here are hostile.

Secretary, I suggest we prepare to intercept before the damage spreads any further. There are too many forces concentrated here.

Wow, look at all these robots! Okay, Akito, we can't let them outshine us!

I disagree, Captain. Now that we have friendly reinforcements, I suggest we take the Nadesico out of the combat zone.

Is that wise?

Aww, but Akito and I were just about to launch our love-love offensive!

No we weren't!

Hoshino. Haruka. If you could please get us out of here quickly?

Should we, Captain?

Hmm. It's true that exposing Akito to more danger would be bad…

And the Gundor Team won't lose either! Let's retrieve Akito and evacuate the area!

Hold on a moment. I have many more questions for you...

Apologies, but we're under no obligation to answer them.

But...!

Retrieve Akito's Aestivalis and ascend to the sky at maximum combat speed!

Um, Yamada launched as well...

Okay, you can pick him up too.

...Thank you for your service, Yamada.

DAIGOJI!

The rest is up to you all. Bye now!
[The two Aestis and the Nadesico retreat]

So that's the Nadesico... What a hassle they were.

They're gone... What was with that lady?

I'm more confused now than I was at the start.

No kidding. I hope this doesn't lead to any other funny business.

Are we gonna let them go, Secretary?

Uh, I don't think we get a say in the matter. They're already gone.

Okay, but still...

Shouldn't you guys be focusing on beating the Gaizock anyway?!

Yeah, why are you still arguing?

Ah, sorry. I'll request your assistance in this battle, Jins.

Sure thing.

We'll be happy to assist.

Hoh hoh hoh, I see you've got your affairs sorted out now.

He actually waited for us. What a courteous invader.

Heh, say your prayers! I'm gonna avenge our ancestors today!
Can you see the Moon? Wait, wrong series.

[Zambot 3]
An all-ranged Super Robot with adequate armor, HP, and three pilots. All of its attacks have more than a range of one, so Zambot is perfect as a support boss killer. It leaves after the next stage, so it's not like you get to play with him much at the moment, but it becomes a core part of your team in Acts 2 and 3. Its strongest attacks require a lot of EN, and its spam moves will run out of ammo quickly. In the end, Zambot is a solid Super Robot.
Kappei has Spirits that'll let you get into the fight and deal more damage, Uchuta will let you survive and hit, and Keiko is more for supporting allies. There's not much to talk about, except that Kappei gets Support Attack and Defend at level 30.
The Nadesico may be gone, but the enemies remain. Clear out the Battas and Mechaboosts as fast as you can so you can focus on Butcher. It's a bit unrealistic to finish this stage on turn 5, but turn 6 is definitely doable.
I used Dancouga's Dancouhou Formation attack to easily clear out Butcher's HP from just above the retreat threshold, scoring me the Skill Point.

I see they have formidable robots planetside as well. Oh well, I was just here for sport today anyway.

Are you running away?! Stay and fight us!

Hoooh hoh hoh hoh! Don't worry. I'll take my sweet time killing you all.
[Butcher retreats]

Well, that was ominous…

I can't even tell what their goal was.

I'll explain later! For now...

Ah, so Zambot 3 was built to fight them.

That's right. Now who's left to fight?!

The Gaizock, hm... If there are any enemies remaining, mop them up.

So those are the Gaizock...

They weren't operating with any goal. They were just here to kill people.

Yeah. That's the worst kind of enemy to deal with.

Stay focused, everyone! Don't start relaxing yet.

3/5 Skill Points obtained.
The map ends when all enemies are defeated.

Looks like that was the last of them.

The Gaizock... Did they attack Sasebo because the Nadesico was here?

Hm. It's possible.

Either way, it's more trouble for us.

Who cares about that? Let's go!

Don't you have to chase that Nadesico ship?

Come to think of it, who are these kids?

Good question. Though I doubt they'd turn around and go hostile at this point.

Will you join our fight?

I'm doing some checking now. One moment.

...

Um... Secretary Hazuki, do you see that we're on your side?

...I just got verification. Keiko Kamikita, would Heizaemon Kamikita be your grandfather?

Yes, that's right!

The signal was too bad for me to get in direct contact, but the Saotome Laboratory apparently sent word about this. I'll still need the full story, of course...

If the Saotome Lab's vouching for them, that's good enough for me.

What's the call, Secretary Hazuki?

I'd like you to come with the Gundor Team for the time being.

Oh, fine. Guess we're on the team, then!

Mm... I do have misgivings about turning to children for help, though...

It happened all the time on the Argama Team. Judau's the main example.

So, nobody's pursuing the Nadesico?

I doubt we could catch up to them if we tried at this point.

(The Nadesico... Would Captain Bright know more about them?)
I finished this stage on turn 6, so I gave SP+15 to Shinobu.

...And that's the general rundown. Is that satisfactory for you?
(Heizaemon Kamikita. Zambot. CV: Ichiro Nagai) (Phone)

Yes, I understand now. I'll be taking in your granddaughter and the others.

Thank you. Kappei, Uchuta, Keiko—do what Secretary Hazuki says, and work together, okay?

You got it, Gramps! While we're out there fighting the Gaizock, I'll stomp Zeon and the Kikaiju too!

Heh, just don't fall flat on your face.

Don't start with that, Uchuta!

Okay, but... These look like totally normal kids to me.

Right? It's hard to believe their ancestors are aliens.

Maybe the old man was just stretching the definition of a Spacenoid?

But he said they came here centuries ago from a planet 47 light years away.

The Muge Empire came from outer space too. Besides, Earth's full of bizarre forces. Aliens coming here isn't that strange.

No kidding. And what's the big deal if we're getting along?

Speaking of aliens... I wonder how he's doing. What do you think, Tetsuya?

Oh, Daisuke? I hear he's with the Londo Bell right now.

Ooh, you know aliens other than us?

Is this "Daisuke" person one?

That's a Japanese-sounding name.

His real name's Duke Fleed, for the record.

He pilots Grendizer, and he came here from the planet Fleed.

He's like a brother to me and Tetsuya.

Daisuke was talkin' about some invasion from Vega. What happened with that?

Oh yeah, he was. Was that what those clay doll-looking things were?

I thought those were called the Gaizock.

I'm more concerned about the bug machines. Are those Gaizock as well, Kappei Jin?

Hmm, they're not any kind that I've ever seen. I bet they're Gaizock, though.

The Gaizock and the Vega Allied Forces... We haven't encountered anything from Vega so far, have we?

Considering the Londo Bell has Daisuke…

They're probably keeping these Vega Allied Forces from reaching Earth.

I hope he's not struggling too hard up there...

Heh, no need to worry about space. We'll be going to join them.

I just hope we don't add to their stress.

Heh, agreed. There's problems all over, on the Earth and in space.

So now we've got the Zeon ground forces, the Kikaiju Army, and the... Gaizock? We've been fighting different groups nonstop.

Then there's the mobile warship Nadesico. It's wartime, but they're unaffiliated with the military and acting independently.

Don't forget they have a cute captain!

Heh, is she your type? I prefer someone more domestic, myself...

Let's not get off-topic. We lost track of them, and their trail went cold. What's going on there?

Then there's the Dinosaur Empire survivors. It's like nothing's been solved.

And now we've got aliens invading on top of that...

And Dr. Hell. What's going on with this planet? Geez.

...

Hm? Ensign Amada?

Huh? Oh, don't mind me. I was thinking about what Zeon's up to.

Well, all right. If you say so.

(That Gouf Custom that attacked the Cyber Beast Force Base. That was connected to her...)

Speculating in circles won't get us anywhere. Secretary, is there any way we can get a proper sitrep?

I'm working on it. Yuiri, have you figured out the problem?

It looks like Minovsky particle density has thinned out.

I can open a channel now!

Hoooh hoh hoh hoh, how very irksome! I get interrupted in space right at the good part, then I get outplayed on Earth by some children's robot…

Ooh, I'm so steamed!

...cher…
(???)

And what were those bug robots, anyway? I wouldn't have had half as many problems if they'd put on a proper show.

Just goes to show that mechaboosts are always the best, hoooh hoh...

Butcher...

?!?!?!

Butcher. Do not forget the pact...

Eeep! It's... No, no no no...

What do you have to say for yourself? Butcher... My order was to destroy...

Y-Y-Yes, yes, I know! There was interference, yes. Something interfered.

Those who ignore my decrees suffer grave penalties...

F-Forgive me! I'll move right away! Yes, right away!

The Londo Bell couldn't keep them all back. We allowed the Gaizock to make atmospheric entry. I can't apologize enough.
(Phone)

You did the best you could in the circumstances, Captain Bright.

There's another warship making descent to Earth as well. It's called the Elshank, and it attacked Mars Cultivation Base.

It attacked the base? What is this ship...?

Secretary Hazard, the director of Mars Cultivation Base…

Claims that they're spies sent by Zaboom, a new group of invaders. But...

But?

They haven't attacked us, and from what we saw, they were being chased by Zaboom.

What's more, it appears Hazard Pasha is hiding something.

I see. We'll be on the lookout for Zaboom. The situation on Mars remains concerning...

The Jovian lizards are showing up on Mars, yet Secretary Hazard said not worry about anything there.

Is that so? Mars hardly seems well-defended...

The silver lining is that the unmanned weapons being referred to as Jovian lizards aren't that powerful.

But one can't help but wonder if there's a reason he doesn't want us visiting Mars.

Agreed. It merits investigating. How are things on Earth right now?

Those Jovian lizards actually showed up in Sasebo.

Sasebo?! Isn't that where...?

Yes, that's where the Nadesico's hangar was.

Nergal's mobile warship, constructed in strict secrecy...

When we arrived there, the Nadesico was in battle against the Jovian lizards.

It's hard to write off their appearance in Sasebo as a coincidence.

Yes, it's safe to assume they were after the Nadesico. It's also concerning that a Gaizock warship showed up after the Gundor Team reached Sasebo.

Does that mean the Jovian lizards are Gaizock machines?

The Jin Family seemed to think so, but just because it's possible doesn't mean we have a definitive answer. I suspect they're from another organization, personally.

True, it'd be dangerous to lump them together just because they showed up in the same place once.

Exactly.

Where is the Nadesico now?

It fled from Sasebo.

I see... Well, it's pretty easy to guess where it's going.

Yes, most likely Mars.

That means the Schiaparelli Project is underway...

Oh, and about the Nadesico's captain—
[Monitor noise]

Hm? I'm getting a call...

We've learned absolutely nothing about these Jovian lizards so far, have we?

They're unidentified and unmanned. That's all we got.

That's a serious lack of intel.

What if they're new Zeon weapons?

Those clearly aren't Zeonic designs, Ensign.

What makes you such an authority there?

Oh, you know, stuff from my background.

Who cares who they're from?

They've got a stupid name.

You're not wrong. Why are they called "Jovian"?

I read that back when they first showed up on Mars, they swarmed in endlessly from the direction of Jupiter.

So they kept growing like a lizard's tail?

Is that why they're called Jovian lizards? That seems... simplistic.

You're well-informed, Mr. Nambu.

I just learned that myself by reading through the database here.

Are they connected with the Gaizock?

Hard to say. It's possible, if these Jovian lizards are actually alien weapons.

But all we've got is the name, huh.

We don't know their connection with the Nadesico, either.

Mystery begets mystery, huh. Man, we've got enough on our plate already.

...This is Admiral Koichiro Misumaru of the EFF 3rd Fleet. Please respond.
(Koichiro Misumaru. Nadesico. CV: Akio Otsuka) (Phone)

Admiral Misumaru?!

Ah, I finally got through! Glad to see you and the Far East Branch are safe, Secretary Hazuki.

May I ask where you are right now, Admiral?

Our fleet is battling enemies in Europe at the moment.

Europe? I thought you were in Jaburo.
(Phone)

We were, but an urgent mission arose that brought us here.

I see…

Does that mean you don't know why Jaburo's out of contact either?

I'm afraid not. I've dispatched a recon troop there, but I haven't gotten any word so far.

Does that mean some organization is keeping Jaburo locked down?

Mm. I'd actually like the Gundor Team to visit Jaburo and find out.

...

I was wanting to head there myself, but it's hard to do so immediately with all of these invaders coming out of the woodwork.

I'm aware! It doesn't have to be right now, but your team is the strongest force we have planetside. No one short of your team will be able to reach there.

Admiral, you really think Jaburo's...?

Mm. It's not a possibility I like to entertain, but...

Consider your request accepted.

Mm. Thank you.

On another note, Admiral—were you aware that Nergal's mobile warship, the Nadesico, has departed from Sasebo?

YURIKAAA! How could you do it?! How could you leave your father like this?!

?!

Captain Bright... The Nadesico's captain is his daughter.

Admiral Misumaru's daughter?! Oh... I had no idea...

It's true! Oh, Yurika, come home to meee!

Um, Admiral...

Hm?! Er, ahem... I sometimes forget myself when it pertains to my daughter. My apologies. *cough*

Ah, don't worry about it. That's what it's like being a father sometimes...

It is, isn't it?! Bright, we have to treasure our wives and children...

Um, could we please get back on topic, Admiral?

Oh, yes, of course. As you're aware, the Schiaparelli Project is now underway. And the Nadesico has my precious baby girl Yurika as its captain.

A manager at Nergal claimed they'd cleared things with the EFF.

To be honest, I'm not privy to the details myself. But I understand there was an agreement between the top folks in the Federation and Nergal while I was elsewhere.

Ah…

I can't help but wonder what this agreement is.

Mm. And as you're aware, we can't exactly check in with Jaburo at the moment. But I'm positive that the Nadesico isn't an enemy.

Why is that, Admiral?

Because Yurika's its captain! Wah hah hah hah hah!

Erm... Yes, I'm sure your daughter is very trustworthy. It's Nergal I'm more concerned about.

I doubt the Schiaparelli Project's goal is simply retaking Mars.

Mmhm. I suspect the same. But for the time being, even if it is a non-military vessel, the Nadesico will be an essential field asset.

I fully agree.

I'd like to hear your thoughts on how to address this matter, Admiral Misumaru. Would it be acceptable to simply let the Nadesico go to Mars?

Mars is extremely short on firepower. I'm sure it would help Secretary Hazard a great deal if the Nadesico went there.

Actually, about that. I should tell you more about Hazard Pasha, the man in charge of Mars Cultivation Base...

...

Hmm... I see. That is indeed suspicious. But I'm sure we'll see some form of activity if the Nadesico goes to Mars. You can fill Yurika in on that as well.

Understood, Admiral.

Best of luck to both of you.
[Misumaru hangs up]

So we're still completely in the dark about Jaburo...

At least we know Admiral Misumaru and other EFF troops are handling enemies showing up in other parts of the world.

Agreed. If we manage to spot the Nadesico on our end, I'll try to make contact with it.

Thank you. We're almost at the Space Science Laboratory. We'll be sending up either Kabuto or Tsurugi to join you there.

I know things are bad on Earth.\

I feel terrible making you cut into your own firepower like this...

We'll manage on our end. With this many factions operating in the wild, you need all the firepower you can get.

And we can't exactly depend on do-gooders when we can't predict when or where they'll show up. Thank you.

That part was fascinating to hear about, though. A hero standing on the bridge? I wish we could have surprise help show up like that.

It's complete nonsense. But we'll manage.

Tetsuya Tsurugi and Koji Kabuto, reporting in.

What did you want to talk with us about, Secretary Hazuki?

This is very short notice, but I'd like to send one of you to space.

Huh?

What's this about, Secretary?

I just got off a call with Captain Bright of the Londo Bell. He's struggling pretty badly, and we still can't reach Federation HQ in Jaburo.

So basically, they need a ringer.

There's also the Nadesico to consider. Did they head to space?

Mmhm. The Federation doesn't have the forces to stop them, and the Nadesico apparently shook off their attempts at pursuit.

Yeah, I could see it with that ship's fancy barrier.

It's called a distortion field, Koji.

Tracking the Nadesico is one of our concerns, yes. Our next destination is the Space Science Laboratory, where we'll be launching Dancouga with an HLV. I'd like one of your teams to go with them.

So either Great Mazinger and the Venus A, or Mazinger Z and the Diana A?

Mmhm. I'll be sending along Boss and the Boss Borot as well.

Huh? Why Boss? The Borot isn't even built for space!

I'm aware. But it's equipped with a resupply device, making it a valuable machine. We can resupply at laboratories and bases in the region, but the Londo Bell doesn't have that kind of support network.

...All right, I'll fill Boss in. So, who do you think should go, Tetsuya? You or me?

…

>Send Koji to space
>Send Tetsuya to space
This is the first major decision of the game and will impact not only how you play the rest of Act 1, but also Act 2. In short, you lose the one you send to space, but they show up in Act 2 as reinforcements.
SECRET ALERT
V-UP (U) #1 or Mass Produced Great Mazinger #2
To get a V-UP (U), send Tetsuya into space.
To get the Mass Produced Great Mazinger, send Koji into space.
This choice doesn't matter if you're not taking a specific route split later in the game. If you didn't do the Great Mazinger stage last out of the initial 3 choices, then you might as well send Tetsuya into space.
I chose to send Tetsuya into space because I feel like the V-UP (U) is more valuable for me. Plus, it'll make this LP more comprehensive.

Well, we've made it out of Sasebo, Captain.

That's right! Akito! This was all thanks to you.

I didn't do anything...

Don't forget my legendary exploits!

You ran your battery out.

Grk... That was just for added tension, okay?!

Yes, and you had to have the Gundor Team pull your "added tension" out of the fire.

Right, the Gundor Team... We dumped that whole fight on them and ditched. Was that okay to do?

They can handle it. In fact, they're a better fit for the job than us. They're combat experts that already made it through one war.

(Wait, then why were we picked for this...?)

So, where do we take the Nadesico now?

As we went over before, we're going to Mars! But Earth has six defensive lines we'll have to break out of first.

And invaders like the Vega Allied Forces might stall our progress too.

Luckily, defensive lines 2 through 6 are down due to all the chaos that's been happening. The problem is the first line, the Big Barrier.

There are 24 barrier satellites in the Earth's orbit. Four of those fall along the Nadesico's course. We'll be able to bypass the barrier if we can destroy just one of them.

Dear me. I'd prefer to bypass the barrier more peacefully, personally. If we destroyed any of those barrier satellites, Nergal would have to pay for them.

Is there a way we can bypass the Big Barrier without destroying any satellites?

Hrm... We'd be able to if we sent the deactivation code...

Is there a reason we can't?

I forgot which code it was.

Oh, brother.

That's still fine, right? We can try a code, and if we get it wrong, we can just destroy a satellite then!

Either way we can totally get through.

Our captain sounds eager.

I'm concerned that the losses our company will incur don't seem to be part of her calculus...

So, what's the deactivation code?

If I recall correctly, it was...

We're almost at the Space Science Lab, huh.

And then space.

I'd love to go on a space walk if it was more peaceful.

But it's a mess here on Earth…

And we're leaving that behind and going to space.

Are you kidding? It's probably way worse up there than it is down here.

We'll handle what we can on our end.

I heard the Nadesico went to space as well.

More like we just let it go. That thing's got "suspicious" written all over it.

But if it's going to Mars anyway, what's the problem?

The only halfway functional fighting force in space right now is the Londo Bell. They need all the help they can get, civilian or no.

Should we even be trusting them?

That does seem a little shortsighted.

But if she's really Admiral Misumaru's daughter, she might be trustworthy after all.

Who flashes a V-sign on camera? I almost fell outta the Borot's mouth when I saw that.

No kidding. You'd be surprised, though—that type can be tough as nails.

And their gift for ignoring cues means they're that much harder to predict.

Heh, that sounds like the voice of experience.

...

She definitely had the vibe of someone with some real chops. I'm also curious about that Nergal Heavy Industries manager that was talking with the secretary.

I think the Federation's central base of Jaburo has fallen, and the Nadesico took off because they expected it.

What the hell's their game? Guess there's a bunch of stuff goin' on behind our backs.

Definitely. But what?

Puzzlin' over it ain't gonna help any. We'll raise some hell down here on Earth, and—

Ah, there you are, Boss. You're going with the Cyber Beast Force to space.

Say what?!
[If Koji's going to space]

You and I are gonna be fighting with the Londo Bell.

The hell's this about, Kabuto?

Secretary Hazuki wants to split up the Mazinger Team and send half of us to help the Londo Bell. We'll be launching together, Fujiwara.

Heh heh, I knew it, Koji. You can't fight without help from me 'n the Boss Borot!

Uh... Sure, Boss, let's go with that.

Hey, Koji...

Shh! It's fine.

Okay, I'm ready and rarin' to go!

Koji, we'd better get prepped.

Right. Heh heh, I'm pretty excited about visiting space!
[If Tetsuya's going to space]

You and I are going to help the Londo Bell.

Huh? What's the deal there?

Secretary Hazuki's splitting the Mazinger Team in half and sending one half to support the Londo Bell. After talking it over with Koji, we decided Jun and I would go. And you're with us, Boss.

Heh heh, I knew it, Tetsuya. You can't fight without help from me 'n the Boss Borot!

Don't flatter yourself. We've got clearly defined roles—Great provides the muscle, the Venus provides the support, and the Borot provides the supply device.

Man, come on! The Borot's more than just a walkin' resupply device!

That's harsh, Tetsuya. You could've just humored him.

Tetsuya's never exactly been diplomatic.

Jun...

Yes, yes, sorry. Let's get prepped to go, Tetsuya. Boss.
