Midnight, on the water

I saw the ocean's Daughter

The Game (of Luv)

I put this game on my Steam wishlist because it looked cool, and it was finally on sale when I had some spare money for it. So I'm here to play it.

The Let's Play (of Luv)

This will be a blind LP where you will be getting my organic reactions to everything that happens. My knowledge of this game extends no further than what can be gleamed from its Steam description, so I hope I can make the proceedings entertaining. I'll be aiming to update this at least once a week with sessions of 45 minutes-an hour.

Disclaimer of Luv

I want to experience this game as genuinely as possible so Absolutely No Spoilers!!! if you are already familiar with it. It's no fun if the twists and turns are communicated to me ahead of time!

Elise begins her journey, ideally staving off the notion that she is a Witch, in spite of my lack of discretion! I end this part at a convenient point where I can leave my next action up to you, my wonderful viewer. Should we spend our afternoon with Lebkuchen or Freya? Make your selection now! There's no particular end point for this vote beyond when I get around to recording the next part (which should be in the next 3-4 days).

User avatar

Part 2 is out, with 10% less needless black space because I noticed I accidentally turned on letter boxing in my editing software! Freya won the day and pretty quickly puts Elise on the backfoot with her more outwardly good nature, though Rozenmarine seems to believe Elise is just as kind underneath the bluster. We also get our first nightmare, in which I manage to overcomplicate the situation to a delightful degree. We also get a beautiful music video dedicated to Elise's intense situational narcissism.

Day 1 let us play the field a bit, but Day 2 triple books us for a date night by Dusk with just one lady! Shall we convene with Freya once more? Will Lebkuchen be left in the cold yet again? Or should we learn more about the enigmatic Rozenmarine? Let me know what you're preference is! One bright spot of the locked down Dusk time slot is that we can explore more of the job mini games next time.

Part 3 is out! With Freya clinching another poll, we get to see the inevitable result of me being put in charge of Elise's attempt at courtship. This trial of errors is what the blind format is all about! We've got 10 endings to get through though, so that just sows the seeds for more elegant runbacks later down the line. That aside, I do one job at an adequate level and then completely bungle the second, resulting in the day being somewhat of a financial wash for Elise. Finally, Rozenmarine has been a pleasant addition to Elise's lonely life thus far, but she succeeds in creeping me out just a tad by the video's end.

Shall we continue to try and woo Freya in a way that only Elise and I in tandem can? Should we finally show Lebkuchen some love for all the bread? Or should we ignore the slowly emerging red flags and take a chance on Rozenmarine? Sometimes you just need a girl who will absolutely fuck up your entire life, after all.

Part 4 is out! After a mildly unsettling evening in the woods, we find thievery most equine is afoot in the village! I am being gentle when the game wants me to be headstrong and headstrong when the game would prefer gentleness, meaning we're unfortunately on a full GirlFailure Elise route right now. Ya hate to see it, but such is the risk you run when playing games such as this blind.

No vote this time as we end at a point with no dates queued up and we don't even know if we'll have any double booking going on tomorrow!

User avatar

Part 5 is out! After a successful run of rat batting, Elise sets us up for a big 'ol dose of second hand embarrassment while the villagers all line up to get their kicks in. After that travesty, the Witching hour begins once more and Elise comes to realize securing the Testaments may not be so pleasant.

Once more, we find ourselves faced with some potential dates, though it's not exactly clear if they're booked for the same time. Regardless, we'll just focus on one of them: should we go for the immediate runback with Rozenmarine, or maybe see if a day away from Freya has let Elise work on her ability to talk to her? Let me know!

User avatar

Part 6 is out! After a rather disquieting reunion with Rozenmarine, Elise gets some amount of vindication but of course this just leads to more undue suspicion being thrown her way. Some other rather dire occurrences are happening in the town as well, I'm starting to kick ass at these mini games and uh oh I think Freya is starting to win me over.

I'll bury my own wants though and let the democratic process hold strong. Shall we keep on keeping on with the stalwart Freya? Or should we give Rozenmarine another chance, provided we get one? Sadly, I think Leb is permanently off the table for this runthrough, but hey, she's always there for us with bread at least.

User avatar

Part 7 is out! Sadly, supper with Rozenmarine gets sidelined as a panic sweeps over Kieferberg. Luckily, despite her disdain for the town, Elise is a friend to all children and steps up to play hero! Plus we get evil mini games! This time we were entirely focused on the Witch Hour and the consequences of it, so we actually haven't gotten to our next date with Freya. I'll consider it locked in though, so look forward to that next time.

User avatar

Part 8 is out! After a brief moment of being considered a hero, the inevitable comedown hits even faster and harder than you might expect. And if that's not enough, we've been branded by yet another insidious animal! But hey, we're actually making good progress on Freya, though it's unclear if we are able to secure a fairytale ending at this point or not.

Once again, we're not really in a position to go to a vote on anything since it's unclear to me if Rozenmarine is even still holding out for us! I have a feeling Saturday in the game will be a climax point that locks in our ending though, and we're getting awfully close to that. Once I get a proper ending for the game, I can dig into guides to figure out where to go from there and then we'll have ample room to let the thread steer Elise's choices in love and life!

User avatar

Part 9 is out! Another creepy trial with another Testament awaits us, and thankfully were not back in the Crow domain for this one. I will say though, I was expecting the Castle to be the main nighttime/dream world set piece, and it has been interesting how we instead have a constantly changing forest. Regardless, with that done, we're onto another day where people decide to just blame Elise for things she has no influence over like the weather.

It looks like at this stage, we are fully locked in on Freya and have no other dates to fill out our days with. We'll have to wait until the next playthrough to have a communal decision on the next course of action, which thankfully the game is heavily signposting that it will come to it conclusion soon. I suspect that failed date with Freya early on will deny us a happy ending with her, but hey that can't stop us from trying right? It'll be interesting to hit up a new playthrough and see what I missed, because I can tell I definitely slid past a few things and missed a number of small events, errands and secrets.

User avatar

Part 10 is out! Paranoia hits a boiling point and we nearly have the whole town baying for blood during a church meeting, but thankfully suspicion is low enough that we duck the worst of it. On a more positive note, we may very well have successfully course corrected with Freya! It remains to be seen if we'll get our fairy tale ending, but at least I have hope. Then we have a blind LP classic to make sure this video ends on an unsatisfying note where I completely misinterpret a puzzle and burn up about 10 minutes of the hour I had for playing this today. Such is life sometimes.

User avatar

Part 11 is out! Those who were holding out for Freya, you're in for a treat this time! Now all that's left is to meet Him. Fingers crossed I have everything I need.

User avatar

Part 12, and our first batch of endings, is out! Apologies for the slight delay in getting this part out, I wasn't sure how long the ending sequence would take and I have limited time on Tuesday's, so I decided to not risk throwing off my schedule. It proved to be a needless worry as this took about an hour to record anyway, but so it goes! We get our actually really delightful conclusion with Freya, and then because I wanted to give myself and everyone watching depression, I wound the clock back to see Freya's True Bad ending right after. Completionism takes you to the worst places. I'm gonna go lie down and cry for a bit, then let this one sit for a bit before we talk about what we're going to do going forward.

If you want me to, I will be the one

That is always good, and you'll love me too

but you'll never know, what I feel inside

That I'm really bad, Little Trouble Girl....

Alright, we've had a couple days to chew on the outcome of our very first playthrough of the game, and what a run it was! I narrowly clutched out a happy ending with Freya and then immediately cast it into the fire. Now that we've seen what happens when I'm left to my own devices, it's time for me to crack open the guides and discovers what's left to see in this game! I'll do my best to cover most everything here that's left to see, though there might be a couple things I leave by the wayside by the end. If you'd like to have some surprises left for the LP, I'll be spoilering most of the ending related details that I've discovered.

-To re-iterate something we discovered, if you miss out on two opportunities to date someone in a row, that romance route is forever terminated. As it happens, the romance scenes are staggered in just a way that you can pursue all the girls without ever shutting off their dates by Saturday, and hit the necessary 4 Hearts to get a happy conclusions.

-When it comes to focusing on one girl Maxing out their hearts has no effect on the story's outcome! You just need 4 hearts by Saturday and the final romance scene with your preferred girl in order to get the Good Company Testament. The only major thing you get out of dedicating at least one time slot every day to a specific girl is a Steam achievement.

-In addition to the Romance and Sacrifice endings each girl has, there are a handful of bad endings you can get if you place the wrong testaments. If you fail to place proper Testaments for the Tender Flesh and Sweetest Nectar, you're instantly awarded a bad ending that is the same regardless of who you brought to the forest. If you place the Tender Flesh and Sweetest Nectar properly but misplace or otherwise do not have the token for Good Company, you can get one of two bad endings depending on if you went to the forest with Rozenmarine or if you went with Freya/Lebkuchen. You can invite a girl to the woods even if you don't have 4 hearts with them, you simply won't get the final romance scene that awards the love token and thus are doomed to one of the bad endings.

-Note that it is actually possible to miss ALL the Testaments, not just the love token. If you don't talk to all the necessary villagers on Wednesday, Eugen won't give you the key to the windmill, and thus you cannot bake the Tender Flesh. Plus you could just... go home without doing it if you lose track of what you're doing. Similarly, you can actually skip out on crafting the Sweetest Nectar although you'd pretty much have to be self-sabotaging here to make that mistake.

-The Golden Girls DO NOT contribute to any kind of ending, but there is a bonus cutscene you can view if you find all 25 of them.

-If you're looking to qualify for every ending in the game, it's a good idea to hunt down the Golden Girls regardless. Many of them award treasures and healing items, and you'll have to sacrifice most of your working opportunities to attend dates, so those can be a lifesaver.

-Related to the last point, there is one errand for the villagers to do every day which is another avenue for getting healing items and treasures.

-We never followed up on that note we found in the church on the first day, and indeed you do have very limited time to pursue that line of investigation. There's a separate ending for completing the questline related to it, and it's pretty deviously hidden at all stages so it's not unlikely you'll fail this ending route without a guide.

-I had speculated this when we first saw it but the doppelganger girl you see during Wednesday's Witching Hour when rescuing Apfel is indeed determined by whoever you have the highest number of hearts with. In the event of any potential ties, Rozenmarine takes precedence over Freya and Lebkuchen, though I don't know who takes precedence between Freya and Leb. Naturally, the girl seen here will be the one who stands accused on the Friday church meeting.

-And to clarify on one thing since we never really ended up being at risk for this, if you advance time with maxed out Suspicion, that does trigger a non-standard gameover/pseudo-ending where you are tried for Witchcraft. Fortunately, there's usually 2-4 Suspicion altering conversations per time slot, so you pretty much always have a chance to save yourself. You're also not obligated to actually talk to any of the villagers most of the time, so there's plenty of room to evade raising suspicion altogether, though you will have to cover for Rozenmarine a lot on an All Endings run. I'll be mixing in bad endings with the intended goal of each video going forward so we'll be seeing what happens with this soon.

-There was a couple Freya dates we didn't get to see, plus I screwed up her second date originally, so I'll be sure to show those off when they're available. Otherwise, each new video will be focused on a specific route of the game at the expense of anyone else.

Speaking of! We've got one last chance for those among you to steer the course of this LP. Naturally we'll be checking out all that remains, but what would everyone like to see first? Shall was now pursue the pious but perpetually overworked Lebkuchen? Shall we see what happens when Rozenmarine gets her wish? Or, should we unravel the sinister plot that is going on underneath the noses of everyone in Kieferberg? Make your selection... now!

User avatar

Part 13 is out! We didn't really have a consensus on what to do next, but enough interest was expressed in exploring the sinister plot going on within Kieferberg that I decided to go that route first. Perhaps some truths are better left undiscovered, though from beyond the veil it's certainly some interesting information for us!

Now that we're done with that, we have two potential routes to go down from here: Lebkuchen or Rozenmarine? We didn't get to see too much of them aside from when we had to see them, so it'll be interesting to see what storyline is happening for them that we've been missing out on! Conveniently, we can also snag up all the remaining bad endings of the game with them. Let me know who you'd prefer to see first!

As an added aside, we did actually get most of the Golden Maidens throughout the first playthrough, with the main ones I missed being the ones out in Kieferberg during the evening. Most of them don't actually inform anymore details of the plot and just give Elise cryptic warnings, so I'm just going to run through a quick list of where they all are for posterity's sake.

1: This one's devious, right out in Elise's front yard after meeting Rozenmarine on the first Saturday

2: By the entrance to the Woodlands on the Evening of Sunday

3: North of the entrance to Kieferberg on the Evening of Sunday

4: In the starting room of the Dream Castle

5: By the Well on Monday Evening

6: In Elise's Garden on Monday Evening

7: On the bloodied dress on the first screen of the Butterfly Woodlands

8: Down the steps on the cliff screen of the Butterfly Woodlands

9: In the western room of the cave area in the Butterfly Woodlands

10: In the Church Belltower on Tuesday Evening

11: To the left of the shaking trees in the first screen of Murim's Domain

12: On the eastern bridge after taking the elevator down in Murim's Domain

13: Through an archway to the right on the following screen

14: Off to the right after completing the Crow Tablet Puzzle

15: By the windmill on the Evening of Wednesday

16: Towards the right of the maze at the start of Murim's second domain

17: From examining the corpse after solving the Sliding Tile puzzle. Notably, this is the one Golden Maiden you have to collect, and it does not actually damage your sanity on the offchance that doing so would kill you and you had no way to heal yourself.

18: Behind the Church Altar on Thursday Evening

19: Past the first brambles you must cut in Aziel's Domain

20: Immediately to your left after the transition from examining the Snake lock

21: As far left as possible in the New Moon section of the Moon Lagoon

22: In the southwestern section of the Moon Lagoon, there are some brambles you can cut with a Porcelain Knife, a Maiden waiting just beyond them

23: By the Hay Bales in the Stable area on Friday Evening

24: By the Maypole Cave at the Crossroads on Friday Evening

25: Just south of the Church on the first screen of Aziel's second domain

Probably the most interesting comments we get from the Golden Maidens are the ones in Aziel's domain, who note that they are in service to her rather than Ozzy provided they put on sad enough performances. Supposedly, this is far more preferable than being in perpetual service to Ozzy himself.

Part 14 is out! We're running through Rozenmarine's route this time, which is rich in both potential heartwarming and potential horror! We just have Lebkuchen's route to do, plus a few other miscellaneous things I haven't been able to demo yet. Next video should be a slightly longer finale as we tie the bow on Little Goody Two Shoes.

User avatar

And with that, we have our grand finale, with a handful of loose ends thrown in for good measure. Obviously there's a good chunk of townie dialogue I missed, but hey, incentive to check the game out for yourself! The only other notable thing I didn't go over is town errands. Every day, one villager will ask you to talk to another and then report back to them, which will get you either a potent food item, healing item, or sanity restorative. Since they're all functionally the same quest with not super interesting dialogue, I elected to pass them up. Some of them can help you with bribing Millie though if you're light on cash.

With all said and done, what were your favorite endings to the game? Funnily enough, I'd say we lucked into the best endings from the jump with Freya having the most delightful conclusion and heartbreaking bad ends. I liked Lebkuchen's Good ending better than Rozenmarine's, but I'd say Rozenmarine had the way more interesting bad endings. It was fun trip altogether though, I had my eye on this game for awhile and am glad to have finally had a chance to clear it! Hope you all had a wonderful time as well.
