On September 6, 1894, Sherlock Holmes stares out of his window, bored that he has no case to solve that is worthy of his talents. He learns that a young Maori manservant, who works for Captain Stenwick, has mysteriously disappeared.

What is this?

Sherlock Holmes: The Awakened is a first\third-person adventure game and the third in the Frogwares series. It was released in 2007 and was the first of the series to take place in a fully 3D environment. It was originally released in the third person perspective but was remastered and re-released a little over a year later with improvements to the original and with the addition to play it as a standard point and click.

For some bizarre reason, the people who made this game thought that it would be a good idea to make the storyline of the game revolve around the Cthulhu Mythos.

LP details

Even though it was originally designed for the third-person perspective, I will be playing this like a standard point and click adventure. This will be a video LP and I will be recording as I play. I aim to upload a video at least once a week.

In this video, Holmes and Watson explore a new area where fish, water and coal are prominent. We get to meet some colourful new characters and try to avoid being vomited on. This part of the game has made me warm up to it slightly more and made Baker Street even more confusing as this area is rather large and open. The final puzzle in this video reminded me a little of the Mystery Of The Mummy, even though it was made considerably easier in the remastered version.

Let's address the :siren: first. Around four minutes of this video contains imagery that may disturb some people. I've included timestamps in the video description of the start and end times, I've also provided a warning beforehand in the video for those who wish to look away but still want to listen to what's happening. Fun fact: I had to re-record the entire segment, and only this segment, as it suffered from the audio stutters that were present in a few previous recordings. I don't like phoning it in so I kept the commentary to a minimum.

This video is shorter than usual as I felt like it was a natural end to the first act, even though there are no official acts in the game.

In this video, Watson visits the Black Edelweiss in Switzerland but is quickly fobbed off and rushed out of the door as when a suspicious character enters the room. Fortunately, we are able to enter and explore it via an unconventional method...

I have discovered that there is a button to switch between both views easily. I've decided that I will use it to examine scenery more closely from time to time. The first time that I used it for this method just happened to be with paintings of half-naked people. :monocle: I assure you that it was unintentional.

In this video, Holmes explore more of the asylum and meets some interesting new people. There is another slight gore warning here between 22:12 and 22:54. Also, if you don't like blood I'd look away around 27:33 as it's fairly prominent until the end of the video.

This is the end of the second act, Holmes finds the information that he needs too and gets the hell out of there as soon as possible. We meet a new friend, we also meet a somewhat old friend too.

I'm still getting the occasional glitches during recording, they don't happen too often but when they do they're a pain in the arse as I had to re-record two sections in the last update. I decided to record this update with the GPU encoder instead of the CPU recorder and noticed that this update suffers from some performance issues at times. I'll switch back to the original encoder for the next update as if I went with the other I'd have to lower the resolution to compensate and I'd rather stay consistent. If things need re-recording then it just means delaying an update for the next day which isn't a major setback.

Welcome to N'awlins, a place which welcomes Holmes & Watson with open arms. This is a fairly action-packed start to a new area, more so than what I was expecting. I think that I'm going to need to tweak with the graphics a little as I didn't experience any performance issues while playing the game but have noticed some slowdown during playback.

This update didn't contain any new notebook entries.

In this video, Holmes & Watson finish off their investigation of the Arneson household. Which continues with examining the scene of the crime that they encountered at the end of the last update. Things start to take an even more sinister and darker turn as they investigate the house even further. :siren: Warning: This update contains some very laggy prostitutes! :siren:

Also, I'm very happy with the default thumbnail for this video!

:siren: GORE WARNING! :siren:

This video is the end of the third act. New Orleans has been very laggy in places and I've been turning down the graphics further with each recording, the brothel, in particular, is a very bad spot for it. There are two instances of gore in this video, I've included timestamps in the video description. The first instance happens between 05:15 and 05:37, the second happens between 12:50 and 15:20.

There are no new notebook entries in this update.

In this video, Holmes & Watson are back in London and have decided they're not in the mood to take a break just yet. This is the start of the final act, we examine the recent evidence and figure out just where we need to go to put this case to an end.

This video is the finale of The Awakened. I'll be starting Sherlock Holmes: Nemesis (also known as Sherlock Holmes Versus Arsène Lupin) within the next few days, that's if I can get it to work as I'm having issues trying to get it working it at the moment.

It's worth pointing out that the Sherlock Holmes series by Frogwares is currently on sale on Steam. The "Complete Collection", minus The Devil's Daughter (which is 90% off at the moment), currently has a 78% discounts.
