Put your Let's Plays in here.

OK, so basically everybody quit on us. But that's not a problem. We just have to beat them up hard enough until we get all our rightful land back!

User avatar
New video!

Image

Alright, we're making good progress on the "beating people up" front. Now we just need to beat some more people up so we can reach our next stage, which is beating more people up.

Our next war is going to be a big one, so we need some time to prepare. But meanwhile, some other nations decide to fill the void and start a big war of their own.

I'm just getting started, with your LP (and HoI4) and its nifty.
Aside from the advice you gave to me over discord, I am learning a bit from your LP - which is a nice draw.
I'll be following this.

For the thread - I was into politics when I was younger, and WW2 had a nice palette of socio-political horse apples.
I leaned more towards the Cold War, and the proxy wars and non-aligned.
If there is an interest (who am I kidding, I'll do it anyway), I can toss out some information reading that.

Alright, time to get a big war going ourselves. Surely, nothing unexpected will happen!

User avatar
New video!

Image

Now that we're really starting to get big, it's time to get even bigger, of course. We're starting to run out of people to beat up on our continent.

User avatar
New video!

Image

Turns out that in this mod, big countries have big militaries. A lot larger than ours, in fact. So we kinda need to fix that.

User avatar
New video!

Image

Hey, remember that thing where I said we surely wouldn't be committing horrible war crimes a while back? Uh, well, I've never seen a Geneva for there to be a convention from in this world, so wanton nuclear weapon use surely isn't a warcrime! Besides, if we win the war, nobody can complain!

User avatar
New video!

Image

Turns out that when the enemy has copious numbers and an ocean separating you from them, you need to take some, uh, different methods to win.

User avatar
New video!

Image

There's one true major power remaining in the world that isn't us. And we can't have that. But before we can take them on, we need to get ready for a massive war. Which mostly involves building infinite infrastructure and airfields.

User avatar

Image

Time for the big war. All bets are off and all nukes are flying.

User avatar

With Equestria out of the picture, there's only a few nations left for us to truly finish our world conquest. Might as well, right?

User avatar
Image

What's all this, then?

This is the One Year War mod for Hearts of Iron 4. It's a Gundam mod.

What's it about?

Gundam. Universal Century Gundam, or so I'm told. Look, I don't know what the fuck I'm talking about here. Ibble's the one that knows about Gundam, not me. I know there's Zeon, and there's an Earth Federation, and the point we start at Zeon has like half the world and I think I heard that that's when the original show starts or something (there are earlier bookmarks).

And what makes the mod special?

There's two main things. For one, there's the tech tree, which amongst other things has a whole bunch of different mobile suits and such to research, build and field. This comes with a whole bunch of different equipment. And the other thing is that there's space, which in HoI4 means that there's a part of the map that's just cut out and completely separated from the rest of the map apart from straits that go across the entire world. It's kind of a mess, actually.

Is it any good?

That's a complicated question. For now, suffice it to say that our time playing this mod will not last as long as Equestria at War.

We start making some moves, and things are looking good! Maybe this won't be as tough as we thought it would be.

User avatar
New video!

Image

OK, no, things are starting to get out of hand. Also, fighting in space is really weird. I think the fact I didn't really study up on mechanics in this mod is biting me in the ass.

User avatar
New video!

Image

We're running into some real problems, a lot surely self-inflicted, but I don't think there would have been a tutorial anyway that could've told me how to work this stuff.

User avatar
Image

What's all this then?

This is Red World, a mod with a quite simple premise: What if the Soviets won the Cold War? As such, in the year of 2010, the Soviets are on top of the world with the Warsaw Pact spanning most of Europe, and the USA collapsed and splintered into many different independent states.

Anything else special?

Not really. Red World is a pretty basic mod as far as mechanics are concerned, sticking pretty much entirely to vanilla and transplanting the research tree into the modern day pretty much unchanged, which is very handy. However, it has some very fun campaigns due to its premise. In this playthrough, we will be going through one of my favorite paths: John Foster's Union of American Soviet Socialist Republics. You'll see, things get fun on this path.

Things are starting to fall apart in the world, and indeed, we also have something to deal with ourselves.

User avatar
New video!

Image

We really have things going out of hand now. Something happens that I feel should have never been allowed to happen, and I try to fix things.

User avatar
New video!

Image

We move to reconquer the former United States and destroy America!

User avatar
New video!

Image

With only three real players left in the game, the wars are getting bigger for us now.

User avatar
New video!

Image

Only two real successor claimants left. Two enter, one will leave.

User avatar
New video!

Image

Time to make absolutely clear that there will be no other claimants to the American mantle so that we can take it, and burn it.

User avatar
New video!

Image

You know, I don't really like naval invasions. It seems I fuck a lot of them up. Let's see if these work out.

User avatar
New video!

Image

Well, Brazil worked out, but alas, as happens so many times, another nation just becomes a major and throws a wrench in our plans. On to Buenos Aires we go, I suppose.

User avatar
New video!

Image

Finally, we've achieved our dream. The Soviet unification of America has finally happened. But... if we're the Soviets of "America", we're not done yet, are we...

User avatar
New video!

Image

Our crusade to bring the UASSR to its full potential continues ever southwards, and we begin implementing... some extremer methods. Also, I put a secondary plan into action.

User avatar
New video!

Image

In our quest to integrate South America, things get a bit out of hand. Oh well, nothing liberal nuclear weapon use can't solve.

User avatar
New video!

Image

Just a few more bits and pieces to put the bow on this campaign. Let's get this done.

User avatar
Image

What's all this then?

This is Old World Blues, the Fallout mod. We have a larger, America-centric map with a lot more detail, a completely reworked tech tree, and a fuckton of content. Old World Blues is up there with Equestria At War in giving content to a whole bunch of different countries. Generally, if you know Fallout, you're going to recognize a lot of stuff, though since the devs need to fill an entire map, there is some stuff that's made up or extrapolated from, like, a single line in a Van Buren design doc or whatever. Still, the whole gang's here, from the NCR to the Legion to New Vegas, Vault City, Arroyo and more.

Anything else we should know?

Not particularly. There's a fair bit of stuff that is different, but not different enough to really throw you off. The first video will be an overview of the map and the factions, but we've already decided on playing as the Free Fighters, because a nation of luchadores is something we just have to go for.

Luchadores?

Yes.

Let's get to playing! There's some mechanics here that I've never seen before and don't quite understand, but whatever, we'll figure it out, I think.

User avatar
New video!

Image

It's time to decide once and for all who will be leading the Free Fighters to glory. And of course, this decision will be made in the ring.

User avatar
New video!

Image

Now that we've cleared up who's going to lead us, it's time to start taking out those criminals bordering us.

User avatar
New video!

Image

One cartel down, one more to go. Also, we get an offer we can't refuse! (We should've probably refused it.) Also also, I have non-shit audio now!

User avatar
New video!

Image

Time to consolidate.

User avatar
New video!

Image

Our allies go to war, and we have to join in. Things get out of hand.

User avatar
New video!

Image

So, uh, technically a spoiler, I guess, but this is the final episode. Things go south. Very quickly.

And with that, I've run out of material to post and haven't had the opportunity to record more, and this weekend I'm already doing something for a different LP. So most likely the next post will be a bit.

User avatar
Well, this isn't exactly what I had planned for the LP to continue with, but it is what it is.

So, what is this mod? It's Reichskommissariat Ruckus, a sort of minigame mod. The basic conceit is "Germany conquers world, puts puppet governments in charge to deal with massive overextension, gives them so much freedom that they literally all stop phoning home and Germany now has to ask everybody 'hey, you still with us or against us', with each puppet having a 50/50 chance of being with them or attacking them". It's a neat concept.

Now, why am I posting this the way I am? Because shit went wrong. Basically, the footage Ibble recorded was laggy as fuck for some reason. My footage is largely unusable because I wasn't in charge in this playthrough, meaning my footage mostly consisted of me dicking around and doing fuck all relevant stuff. As a result, you should not expect quality from this, which is why I'm just dumping this in one go.

If there's still one or two of you out there that like having this stuff as background noise (though I can't imagine that, given the audio problems we've had over the course of the LP), I'm just going to dump a vaguely edited version of the entire session in one post here. This very likely won't end up in the OP at all because it's just a mess. Still, I should at least give you the opportunity to look at it and decide for yourself.

Christ, it's been a while.

What's all this then?

This is No Step Back, the most recent DLC released for Hearts of Iron 4. It added focus trees for the Baltic countries, Poland and the Soviet Union, a rework of the officer and doctrine system, a tank designer, and a rework of the supply system. It also broke basically every mod. Fun times.

Anything else?

We're playing as the Soviets this time, and I'm going to be taking Ibble into account a bit more instead of running the show largely by myself. This may or may not end in disaster. Also, this is the final campaign of the LP. It's been a long while, and it's time to wrap it up.

The Spanish Civil War gives a good opportunity for us to dick around, get in each other's way, and end up blundering several tank divisions.
