I was catching up on these, but I think you had a pretty good read on the Ryan reveal (and called it about as well as you could). I think the reveal that "Fontaine is alive and also Atlas" isn't so much meant to be a twist but an elegant way to resolve those two threads and give the player a motivation for the latter half of the game. Then when they confront him they can choose to kill him, although with the meta-knowledge that the game is pushing them toward such an encounter.

One of the things I think that's different about Spec Ops : The Line is that while part of its theme is player agency, it's also wanting to deal with player identification and emotional investment. When you rescue the princess from the castle, no actual princess has been saved. Being the active player in the game doesn't mean you're accomplishing those tasks if being a hero is the only narrative you're allowed to have (and it does this by asking if being forced to be the villain is worse or better than being forced to be the hero). Though it does do a less successful job of it.

Also I think (but never knew for sure) that the sooner you clear the Code Yellow, the less permanent damage you take. It might well just be a hard limit, though.

Ugh, that damage sticks? I figured whatever you need to do to get rid of the trigger would heal the damage. That's not good, and the damage had better be preset if so, because actually taking permanent damage over time would be the worst.

Someone on a wiki talk page said that the effects reduce your health by a percentage, and it only occurs at specific points in the level.

The damage does heal up eventually!

Episode 29 - Nothing Wrong Here

Art will be up shortly.

The advance episode won't go up owing to a comedy of errors in recording over the past week, resulting in me having to record two episodes today.

I think the Objectivist stance is "Never follow the law, unless it benefits you personally to do so."

You could have done a totally useless thing with Cyclone Trap when it popped up for you. They can 'trap' Big Daddies if you get them in just the right spot (the trap doesn't trigger on them, but the BD can't move through it, so if you put them in the right position, especially against a wall as it was there, it gets stuck).

Episode 30 - The Cursed Recording Part 1

This was possibly the most ridiculous series of failures in recording I've ever had happen in my entire time LPing anything.

So I apologise, you're going to have to deal with me playing through two episodes on my lonesome. I'm very, very sorry about that.

It does feel almost silly that you kind of blithely become a Big Daddy because of a nonsensical set of doors when you have apocalyptic powers at your fingertips. But at least it's almost over. Kind of sad you didn't unleash the bees in the Little Sister escort mission; that's a perfect time to use them.

More language notes: Tenenbaum says "mein kleines Mädchen" at the end, which is the singular 'my little girl' and it half sounds like she's calling Jack that when she says it. It should be 'meine kleinen Mädchen' to be plural.

And with that we're done!

Thanks very much for watching everyone. Unlike normal there won't be much of a break before our next LP which is set to be myself running through Metroid Fusion Blind and will hopefully debut on Monday, the 28th of September.

As always, we'd love to hear your thoughts on the LP overall and broadly on how you feel Bioshock lands so many years later!

I just didn't think to suggest bees! He was having such a trivial time dealing with the challenge though.

I think this does show that Bioshock has held up decently well after all this time; the gameplay is just as good as it was back then. Although I'm of the opinion it hasn't held up as well as System Shock 2, even if the story in SS2 wasn't as ambitious. i would agree that it was better sent in the direction of action over horror as BS:Infinite went. BS2 I have only seen via LP but it makes the choice to linger in Rapture as if that was what people wanted more of.
