We don't have the reggler any more... which means we have a new verb! "Fargish at" is "give to".
Nice to have a way of doing that that isn't just throwing stuff at them. Maybe it'll work better for luring the pilter to the delcot?

OK, let's try and deal with that pilter.

This is the delcot of tondam, where gitches frike and duscats glake. Across from a tophthed curple, a gomway deaves to kiloff and kirf, gombing a samilen to its hoff.

OK! There's our pilter! Now let's try fargishing.

The pilter tunks your darf of jenth.

You can’t reb any such thing.

> fargish darf of jenth at jirf lutt
You can’t reb any such thing.

> fargish darf of jenth at stike
You can only do that to something poltive.
OK, you can only give things to living things. Fair. But at this point, I'm utterly bewildered what we're supposed to do with the pilter.

It's time to check the brolges (the hints).
> jallon
Under the section 'Brolges' we have:

> The fesh of the halpock [The goal of the game]
The tophthed curple [The darkened hallway]
The raskable glaud
The poltive glaud
The glaud-with-roggler
The glaud of jenth

What we need help with are the glaud of jenth... and also the Cobbic Glaud too.
Brolges - The glaud of jenth

• You can't do anything to the glaud of jenth. (12 more brolges)
The hints are 'Invisiclue' style, so you can keep advancing them. I'll list each one with a separate bullet point.
• ...But something else can. And it's the same thing that can leil a darf of jenth.
[But something else can. And it's the same thing that can eat a jenth sandwich.]

• Have you doatched at the droke about jenth?
[Have you asked the droke about jenth?]

• There are no panks near the delcot of tondam, but there's something else with murgous goaves.
[There are no panks near the delcot of tondam, but there's something else with tough jaws.]

• The pilter on the gomway.

• You can vold the pilter around the gomway, but it doesn't pell at the delcot.
[You can follow the pilter around the gomway, but it doesn't go to the delcot.]

• But if you can vorl a lutt from the pilter, it will have to pell somewhere else.
[But if you can block a direction from the pilter, it will have to go somewhere else.]

• The stike is dass, so you can't lello it to vorl the pilter from it. What else vorls lutts from pellage?
[The stike is dass, so you can't close it to block the pilter from it. What else blocks directions from passage?]

• What's vorling the doshery from you? (4 more brolges)
[What's blocking the doshery from you?]
Oh. Looks like the game wants us to block the pilter's path with glauds.

Right then. Fortunately, we have one.

Well, darn. That didn't quite work - it looks like the pilter might not look where it plans to go - and we can't undo twice in a row. Let's see if we can try blocking where the pilter's heading in the next room.

Yeah. That was a little cheaty, but the only other way to figure out where to put the glaud would be following the pilter around for a while, and ain't nobody got time for that.

As a bonus, I'm starting to see what the stike is - some sort of bridge, tunnel, or passageway that lets the pilter go in a loop instead of coming into the delcot.

Ah, I was wondering if that thing would come in handy. I was thinking maybe it could protect the warb from the gitches somehow.

The way those hints are set up, it's like some of the puzzles are designed for you to need them. They're only useful if you've gotten far enough in to understand enough of the words to make sense of the hints. It's pretty well done.

That makes sense, honestly. It is clever, though a tad annoying if you miss the 'jallon' notification at the start.

OK, so... yeah. The word 'boltep' had come up before, but only one context:

(previously)

“Murgous goaves, those panks rask. They can malk sindish or boltep the calbice off a lonn.”
Meanwhile, if you talk to the droke about calbices...

“The Cobbics are stam of calbices. That’s why there are calbices on some of the darfs here.”
That's all you get. I honestly think this puzzle was badly signposted, as opposed to the other one where using the hints might be the expected flow.

Anyway! That's all the glauds! Now let's go do our job.

He rasks it, then pobs it back at you. “From a glaud?” The droke abvates rorm. “Well, aren’t you snave! You’ll distim the doshes in a camling now that you’ve rasked a juffet of the gheliper.”
[He looks at it, then tosses it back to you. "From a glaud?" The droke grins at you. "Well, aren't you snave! You'll distim the doshes in a flash now that you've gotten a juffet of the gheliper."]

Wait, is this something the gheliper... secreted, or something?
The droke seemed to think that the juffet would be helpful in some way (and specifically mentioned it being "of the gheliper") so I'm guessing we have to do something with it now, but I've no idea what.

Maybe doatch at gheliper about doshes/gostak/gheliper/fesh/juffet/whatever else comes to mind? Seems she can talk, so she might let something useful slip.

doatch at gheliper about shamtag

Niiiiice! 'Abvating' was used in the manual for 'figuring out' but it could also be 'revealing'. And what's a pogrifon?
> tunk shamtag
It’s a snave and sharmy shamtag that flomes when you durch it. Its dugrid is skobed and rasks a pogrifon. The shamtag is currently riked bommly.

> tunk pogrifon [look at pogrifon]
It’s a dobbly pogrifon of sindish and koldgeon, tunded as a juffet for your shamtag.
OK, we've heard of 'sindish' before. 'Koldgeon' is new. What could a 'juffet' be, though?
Apparently whatever a shamtag is, it's supposed to have a juffet in it. Maybe the juffet we got from the glaud is a better one than the pogrifon we started out with?

(Also, wasn't "koldgeon" an ingredient in some of the darfs?)

User avatar
Yeah that makes sense. Maybe we can put the juffet in the shamtag, close it back up, and toss it to the gheliper?

User avatar
Or durch it, anyway.

User avatar
OK, let's start off with the obvious command, before we do all the suggestions:
> distim doshes
Since the gheliper is vorling them, the gheliper is distimmed instead. The gheliper smarches durly. “I doatched that I’d zank you if you did that.”
[Since the gheliper is blocking them, the gheliper is distimmed instead. The gheliper smirkles widely. “I said that I’d kill you if you did that.”]

*** You have been zanked *** [You're dead!]

In that halpock, there were are no glauds crenned in the loff lutt of the delcot, and the doshes were not distimmed.

Would you like to RESTART, RESTORE a saved halpock, UNDO your last camling or QUIT?
> undo
OK, good to know. Let's try doatching instead.
> doatch at gheliper about doshes
“They’re my doshes now.”

[The gheliper looks at you and smirkles.]

> doatch at gheliper about gostak
“Is that all you do? Doatch?”
The doshes pell deave.
["Is that all you do? Talk?"
The doshes shuffle around.]
That's her default response for something she doesn't have anything to say about.
> doatch at gheliper about gheliper
She smarches.
[She smirkles.]

> doatch at gheliper about juffet
“That’s... that’s unheamy.” But she beckles.
[“That’s... that’s unimportant.” But she hisses.]

> doatch at gheliper about shamtag
“Ooh, a shamtag! Is that all that the bewl pobs at its its gostaks? Can it even tund skades?”
[“Ooh, a shamtag! Is that all that the bewl throws at its gostaks? Can it even make skades?”]
I like to think 'shamtag' is 'bagpipes', even though I'm certain it's really, really not.

I think the 'its its' is a typo.
> doatch at gheliper about gamda
“Don’t doatch about my gamda. You’re not snave enough to doatch about my gamda.”
Yo' gamda!

Anyway, asking about most other topics gets the default response. I think it's time to try using our shamtag.
> durch shamtag

> lello shamtag [close shamtag]

> rike shamtag gemmly [wind shamtag]
You rike it gemmly, but it’s thale, so it rikes itself bommly again.
[You wind it, but it's empty, so it unwinds itself again.]
As I recall, we can only durch the shamtag when it's riked gemmly, and it looks like that's only doable with something in it. Let's try our pogrifon to start.

Note that I've switched to 'wind'/'unwind' for riking the shamtag because I couldn't figure out how to set it CW/CCW otherwise.
> skobe shamtag [open shamtag]
You skobe the shamtag.

> pob pogrifon in shamtag. lello shamtag. rike shamtag gemmly [put pogrifon in shamtag. close shamtag. wind shamtag]

You lello the shamtag.

You rike the shamtag gemmly.
[You put the pogrifon into the shamtag.

The shamtag flomes durly, with skades of the gheliper!
The gheliper is volded by her own skades! She vorls her banches.
I have a theory: that 'gheliper' is 'dragon', and 'banches' could be 'wings'.
Making that last one...
[The dragon is volded by her own skades! She draws in her wings.]

But now, important question. Did we do it? Can we...?

The doshery! Shinkod to all gostaks, and fesh of the bewl. But it’s far more mavrous than the bewl, and gombs to the brenze. And of course, it’s motched with doshes throughout.

She beckles. “You... you gostak!” It is the snavest thing she could doatch. She could zank you now...
[She hisses. “You... you gostak!” It is the snavest thing she could say. She could kill you now...]

But with the doshes distimmed, her misdeave is skent, and instead, she just flomes stottily and frikes fosken.
[But with the doshes distimmed, her misdeave is skent, and instead, she just flomes stottily and flies away.]

You pell at hoff. It’s mosky in the delcot - even the gitches are mosky. But the gheliper’s friking could be rebbed from the dorl, and maybe even the bewl. The drokes must have rebbed it. Soon they will regomb, and all will be rorm here again.
[You head east. It's silent in the delcot - even the birds are silent. But the dragon's flight could be seen from the dorl, and maybe even the bewl. The drokes must have seen it. Soon they will return, and all will be well here again.]

Of course, the gheliper could always regomb. The gamda, even, could regomb. But for now, the doshes are distimmed. And that’s enough for a gostak.
[Of course, the gheliper could always return. The gamda, even, could return. But for now, the doshes are distimmed.

And that’s enough for a gostak.]

*** You have gnurred *** [You have won]
We did it! We distimmed the doshes! That was a short but interesting halpock. What did you all think of it?

Bonus: Pob what in shamtag?

After beating the game, I did some testing. There are several other things you can put in your shamtag that will have the same effect:

• Skades of distimmage

If you put something distimmed in there, you get skades of distimmage instead. But if you distim a gitch and try to put it in there, it will fly away. Instead, you'll have to catch a warb (before a gitch can eat it), distim it, and put it in your shamtag.

• Murgous skades

Putting the whomm darf in the shamtag has it make murgous skades, which also let you distim the doshes - probably because of all the koldgeon. Oddly, there's a bug with this one where the game doesn't say that the gheliper reacts to it, but you can distim safely nonetheless.

We won, and I still only understand about half of what happened. Were the doshes like her eggs or something? Or was it more of a fox in the henhouse situation?

What did we put in the shamtag? What even was the shamtag? And what did we do to it, and what came out of it. So strange.

Well thanks for the LP, I enjoyed it even when I had no idea what was going on! I wonder if there's a more complete translation dictionary out there somewhere?

I think it was a fox-in-henhouse situation, especially since there's that one line where she durches a dosh and it beckles (hisses). Sort of a hostile takeover thing, I'd think.
What did we put in the shamtag? What even was the shamtag? And what did we do to it, and what came out of it. So strange.
I think a juffet is some sort of... like, the shamtag is either a musical instrument, or it's a thing that makes light or... something? But a juffet might be a filament, reed, etc. Skades could be 'noise' or some sort of shade or picture.

Durching is probably hitting, squeezing, or pressing, given that we also do it to the sandwich maker.

I still like to think that a shamtag is 'bagpipes', though. It might not be right, but it makes the translation that much funnier.
Well thanks for the LP, I enjoyed it even when I had no idea what was going on! I wonder if there's a more complete translation dictionary out there somewhere?
You are very welcome! I have no clue if an alternate translation of the game exists, but if you enjoyed this, why not check out Lighan ses Lion? The story behind that is that the legendary Emily Short hosted a walkthrough competition, where she claimed to have received this walkthrough by telegram:

Well, enough was translated to finish the game. Snave appears to be smart or clever... And a translation attempt in the form of a dictionary appears to agree. Although, as they say, there doesn't appear to be a 100% correct translation, or if there is, the developer ain't telling. And they disagree with our own on several points. :P

Durching is probably hitting, squeezing, or pressing, given that we also do it to the sandwich maker.
I'm leaning towards "durch" just being "use", if only because that seems like the kind of generic command a halpock would need to include.

I wonder if any of the other darfs work as a juffet?

Given that the gheliper durches a dosh at one point, it could have multiple meanings.

Funny you should mention that - there are several different results.
whomm darf: The shamtag flomes durly, with murgous skades! [The shamtag flomes loudly, with murgous skades!]

palgic darf, darf of jenth: The shamtag flomes!

hosh darf, suddy darf, footch darf, skebbic darf, tarshen darf: The shamtag flomes stinly, as if its juffet were thale of koldgeon. [The shamtag flomes softly, as if its juffet didn't have any koldgeon.]
Looks like the amount of koldgeon is directly related to the reaction we get out of the thing. Given that the palgic darf and darf of jenth have the same reaction as the pogrifon, I can only conclude the pogrifon didn't have enough koldgeon.

Bonus: There's a rather ignoble death I discovered by accident. If you put the gheliper's juffet in your shamtag, then durch it outside the doshery... well...

Delcot
This is the delcot of tondam, where gitches frike and duscats glake. Across from a tophthed curple, a gomway deaves to kiloff and kirf, gombing a samilen to its hoff.

> milm
You are rasking:
a raskable glaud
a juffet
a chalm
three darfs of jenth
a pogrifon
your gitch
your shamtag (which is skobed but thale)
Your gitch nurls stinly.

> pob juffet in shamtag. lello shamtag. rike shamtag gemmly.
You pob the juffet into the shamtag.
You lello the shamtag.
You rike the shamtag gemmly.
A naft of gitches pells at the hoggam.

> durch shamtag
The shamtag flomes durly, with skades of the gheliper!
The naft of gitches, dunmile by the skades of the gheliper, frike at you and malk you. Being malked by a gitch isn’t snave, but being malked by a naft of them is.
[The shamtag flomes loudly, with skades of the gheliper!
The flock of birds, angered by the skades of the gheliper, fly at you and peck you. Being pecked by a bird isn't snave, but being pecked by a flock of them is.]

*** You have been zanked *** [You're dead!]
